Alfaraque said City hall will look for a place where they can be relocated. We will look for areas where the government can expropriate land. The government is here to help them but they have to wait and give us enough time.
Alfaraque said they would request the City Council to give Mayor Rodrigo Duterte the authority to act on the complaint of the residents. Given the little time left before the current city council closes for the next council, Alfaraque said this matter would be urgent and a priority.
In February last year, a landslide occurred in Carmens Gaway Hill, destroying the pipelines distributing water to the villages of Tawan-Tawan, Wines, Baguio, and Cadalian, all in Baguio District.
A month later, a series of landslides and flashfloods in the village rendered at least 120 families, or 625 individuals, homeless for a number of days.
Because of the incident, the City Housing Office and the Barangay Cultural Communities Affairs Division of the office of the city mayor conducted an investigation in the area and later recommended the immediate relocation of the affected families.
The affected residents have been following up on their demand for a relocation for almost a year now.
Early this month, the residents of the village also sought a dialogue with Avisado, who was still out of office for health reasons. Acting City Administrator Melchor Quitain said he could not do anything about the complaint and urged the people to instead negotiate with Avisado when he comes back to office. (davaotoday.com)
