SURIGAO SUR (MMNS/August 31, 1987) — Four major opposition political parties here have joined hands in a bid to dismantle what they called the Serra-Ty-Pimentel political dynasty this coming local election.

The newly formed League of Surigaonons Against Dynasty (LUSAD) includes the Partido ng Bayan, Nacionalista Party-Grand Alliance for Democracy, PDP-Laban and two factions of the Liberal Party.

LUSAD enumerated members of the dynasty led by Congressman Mario Sierra-Ty, eldest sister Governor-designate Felicidad Ty-Pimentel; nephew Sangguniang Panglalawigan member Alexander Pimentel; cousin Emilio Serra Geli, sister-in-law Carmencita Ty-Montesclaros and nephew Franklin Ty, OIC-Mayor, vice mayor and councilman respectively of the capital town of Tandag and; distant relative Herminigildo Pimentel Jr., OIC-Mayor of Tago town.

LUSAD clarified that the tie-up is not only for the local polls but in preparation for all local exercises in this province until such time that the political meddling of the Sierra-Ty-Pimentel families is completely dismantled.

In a related development, the Anti-dynasty Movement (ANDAM) here bared in a 13-page report furnished MMNS that the Serra-Ty-Pimentel clan has cornered not only province’s politics but also government infrastructure projects. ANDAM claimed that immediate relatives and in-laws of the dynasty are top contractors and suppliers for large government projects.

ANDAM said small-scale contractors and suppliers are given the projects in far-flung barangays.

LUSAD also announced that it will launch a province-wide signature campaign to support Sen. Teofisto Gungona’s bill banning political dynasties. (Media Mindanao News Service News Digest Volume 1, August 1987-July 1988 Posted by Davao Today)
