DAVAO CITY, Philippines – Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) first Vice Chairman and Bangsamoro Transition Commission (BTC) chair Ghazali Jaafar passed away at the age of 75 at dawn on Wednesday, March 13.
Jaafar’s death was announced through BTC’s Facebook account that said: “BTC Chairman and 1st Vice Chairman of the MILF, Ghazali Jaafar returned to Allah around 1 AM today, March 13, 2019. May Allah reward him for his good deeds and grant him a place in Jannah. Inna Lillahi Wa Inna Ilayhi Rajiun.”
No details were posted at BTCs account as to the cause of Jaafar’s death but media reports said he succumbed to a heart ailment.
Jaafar, the reports added, was confined for three days in a hospital in Davao City where he died on Wednesday morning.
Aside from being named chair of the BTC, he was also appointed as the speaker of the parliament of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).
Former Presidential Peace Adviser Jesus Dureza, in a Facebook post said, “A sad day for us all with the passing of Brother Ghazali Jaafar, MILF vice chair & chairman of the Bangsamoro Transition Commission which successfully brought the Bangsamoro organic law into reality. May he rest in eternal peace.”
