DAVAO CITY, Philippines – Hardly anyone now walks the streets of Davao City after the Davao Regional Task Force implemented the Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) in the entire region 11 on the eve of Saturday, April 4.
Davao City Mayor and Task Force head Sara Duterte-Carpio ordered the ECQ following the increase in the number of Covid-19 patients in the region, as well the number of Persons under Monitoring (PUM) and Persons under Investigation (PUI), three weeks after the local government ordered community quarantine to limit the spread of the virus.
Under the ECQ, people are ordered to stay at home, establishments and government offices are closed except those providing essential services such as food, manufacturing, money transfer and banking, hospitals and pharmacies, delivery services, gas stations among others.
Despite the ECQ order, there are still people who brave the streets on Monday going to work like it’s a regular day.
Mostly roaming the streets are private vehicles and motorcycles, government vehicles and ambulances and police mobile vehicles that run patrols and checkpoints.

Other modes of transportation like these “trisikad” are still allowed to ply the streets provided they comply with the one passenger only rule to ensure physical distancing.
