DAVAO CITY – The official of the City Environment and Natural Resources Office here announced on Thursday, February 11 that the first batch of compactor trucks for the city’s garbage has been delivered and is expected to lessen the cost of truck rentals of the city.
Engineer Eliza Madrazo said the eight compactor trucks form part of the total 22 compactor trucks ordered by the city, 12 of which are brand new and 10 are reconditioned.
Madrazo told the members of the media here that the new compactors have a capacity of 14 to 16 cubic feet as compared to the dump trucks with a capacity of 12 to 14 cubic feet.
As of last year, the city collects about 460,286 cubic meters of garbage daily which prods the city to rent about 100 dump trucks for garbage collection.
Madrazo said the city spends between P10 million to P13 million to rent trucks. The cost covers gasoline expenses, the salaries of the driver and maintenance costs.
But with the arrival of the new compactor trucks of the city, the rental cost will lessen, said Madrazo.
Aside from the new trucks, 4,000 new garbage bins have also arrived, which has a capacity of 600 liters of trash. The old garbage bins can only accommodate 350 liters of trash.
Madrazo said they expect that the city’s order of 13,000 garbage bins will be delivered by the end of this month. (davaotoday.com)
