DAVAO CITY, Philippines — A world festival that will highlight the exemplary initiatives of Filipinos around the country and showcase music, art exhibits, artistic performances and organic food markets will soon be held in Davao and nearby regions.
The event, dubbed Liwanag Festival, is a joint effort by the city government and Mission, an independent and non-partisan cultural movement.
Maya Vandenbroeck, spokesperson of Liwanag Festival announced on Monday’s Kapehan sa SM that the festival will be staged on January 29 to February at the Philippine Women’s College.
“This will be a collaborative project among government, business and civil society that hopes to initiate and co-create the birth of a creative and sustainable future,” Leo Avila, festival director of the Extended Liwanag Davao Organizing Team.
There will also be workshops, discussions and conferences that will focus on the themes of creativity and sustainable development. The activity will also share the visionary works of some of the country’s leaders such as Manila Archbishop Chito Tagle, Alex Lacson, Gina Lopez, Maria Resa, Nicanor Perlas and Tony Meloto.
“This will highlight outstanding thinkers, doers, artists and initiatives that help build sustainable societies,” Avila said.
The five-day activity, according to Vandenbroeck, “will imagine what is possible and will map, highlight and connect stories of a positive future already happening now.” She added, it will involve the society’s three main sectors, the government, business and private which will show the public “what is inspiring, innovative and working.” (Alex D.
