The Governor revealed that they have a target mark in the campaign against malnutrition, of which the competition is very high.

Evaluation made after the Operation Timbang done by the PNO reveal that municipalities of Boston and Cateel have been successful in their fight against malnutrition.

Malanyaon stressed that the Mayors were really motivated because she was always there to remind them of their thrust in the province, which also includes access to comfort rooms, and other indicators.

While malnutrition cases in Davao Oriental significantly dropped in 2008, the PNO says there is a real need to focus and eventually eradicate malnutrition. As such, the supplemental feeding program of the provincial government will be a big help. The program starts education mothers on proper nutrition, deworming of children, and feeding the children with nutritious foods.

Different nutritious menu are prepared for the feeding program.

The PNO also maintains the Provincial Nutri-Village, which are six cottages that serve as refuge for malnourished patients, mostly children. The provincial government shoulders the expenses of the rehabilitation, including the medicines, vitamins, and food of the patients, and nutrition education for both the wards here and their watchers.

Malanyaon said resources must be utilized in the fight against hunger. “All we need is to plant; we are blessed with healthy soil, and a good climate.”

Malanyaon also credited municipal nutrition action officers, barangay health workers, and barangay nutrition scholars for being an enormous part in the fight against malnutrition. (CIO-Dvo.Or)
